(a) little / (a) Few

1. 문법 사용

(a) little 은 단수(대게 uncountable 셀 수 없는 단어)와 사용되고 (a) few는 복수형과 사용된다. 

 

2. "a" 의 사용

little과 a little 그리고 few와 a few에는 큰 차이가 있다. a가 없을 때는 다소 부정적인 표현, a가 있을 때는 다소 긍정적인 표현이다. a 없이 사용할 때는 "기대했던 것보다 없다" " 예상했던 것보다 없다."라는 의미가 내포되어 있다. a와 사용했을 때는 "완전이 없는 것보다", "기대했던 것보다"라는 의미가 내포되어 있고 "Some"과 비슷한 의미를 가진다.

• She has little time to finish the project. (시간이 정말 없다)
• There is little hope of finding the missing hiker.
• He paid little attention to the warning signs.
• The dog had little interest inplaying fetch.

- A little

• Can you add a little more salt to the soup? (많이는 아니지만 적당하게"some"의 느낌)
• She nedes a little help with her math homework.
• He was a little suprised by the sudden rain.
• I have a little extra money to spend on the vacaion.

- Few

• There were few people at the park on a rainy day(사람이 거의 없다)
• She has few friends who share her interests.
• The store had few options for vegan food.
• Few countries have been successful in eradicating poverty. (*eradicating 근절하다)

- A few

• He needs a few more minutes to finish the report.
• I have a few extra pens if you need one.
• A few of the quests arrived early for the party.
• We've got quite a few friends in the village.( 꽤 많은 친구들)
